Textile Craft Workshops
Stella has been practicing embroidery and fibre crafts since her late teens and is inspired by a lifelong passion for all things thread, fibre and fabric. She has a wide experience as a tutor in community contexts; she believes small changes at a personal level can make a big difference on the global issues of our time. Stella’s workshops have a capacity of 4 or 5 attendees so students can be encouraged.

The twists and turns of cable knitting may look complex, but it is a deceptively simple knitting technique!
Stella teaches the core principles of cable knitting in a small class size that enables more one on one time with the tutor. You will learn the twists of a basic cable stitch using a cable needle and how to read a cable pattern and diagram.

If embroidery is drawing with thread, then this workshop is all about doodling designs and having fun with colour and line.
Start work on making a lovely embroidery piece to decorate your home with or give as a gift. Utilise the embroidery hoop you will be using in the workshop to show off your finished work for super easy display. Explore with different fibres and threads to achieve a variety of textures and lines. Students will learn 10 embroidery stitches while also having the space to socialise and stitch.
You will be supported to explore your creativity to make a textile artwork that is uniquely your own!

Learn the ins and outs, rounds and turns of sock knitting! You will gain skills in a fun craft niche that also has a lovely practicality!
Join craft tutor Stella Carruthers as she teaches the basic principles of knitting socks. Utilise a mini sock pattern to learn all the techniques – how to knit in the round using the magic loop technique, turning a heel, foot shaping and the final toe grafting.

Engage with a traditional artform in a new contemporary context as you explore free form embroidery.
Apply upcycling principles and an awareness of textile waste to create a unique piece of art. Build on the idea of eco-textiles and slow stitching as a movement and make the whole item by hand. In this class you will create a simple embroidery design that uses recycled fabrics and threads. Learn how to make yarn from old t-shirts. Master the simple stitch technique of couching. Understand how to finish the work so your creation can be displayed using an embroidery hoop.
Be welcomed into a space where you can connect with others as you sew in a friendly and fun environment.
